The hand tinting photographs is a beautiful technique that can make an evocative print from a monochrome original. The example of the top pictures were originally; on the left a tiny 2-1/2 x 1-1/2in picture taken with a box brownie in 1947. The resulting digital hand print was reproduced beautifully as an 8 x 12 enlargement.

Of course a picture does not have to be old to benefit from this technique.
